Modern Dog Magazine

I just love Modern Dog. I have never been much of an avid dog magazine reader, as my addiction to fashion magazines has a knack for sucking up to much of my time and money, and the availability of the same-old-stuff in Dog Fancy never seems quite as good as Anna Wintour's latest muse. But with the recent popularity of small dogs has come a slew of great magazine's for dog lovers.

This magazine goes beyond the potty training and adoption information to discuss what we all really want to know about. They cover dog fashion, cool products, celebrity pets, and trends... but all on a small companion scale.

Pet Air Travel

As anyone who has ever attemped to travel with their small dog knows, airline flights, restrictions, and costs can be such a burden that it is often not even worth trying. However, if you have a dog like mine who does not take well to being kenneled (Starry hardly eats when she is boarded, and even boarding her with the vet does not set my mind at ease), than your vacation or holiday plans could face a conundrum.

Today, many airlines offer transport of pets, however, Jet Blue stands far and above the rest. First of all, it is inhumane and variably unsafe for a dog to ride in cargo. Jet Blue recognizes these safety issues and therefore does not even offer cargo transport as an option. Furthermore, they are one of the most affordable at only a $50 fee per pet. Unfortunately, you can only bring one pet per passenger. The animal must be stored below your seat, and they are required to stay in their carrier, which is standard.

Fifi & Romeo

Want to shop where the stars such as Paris Hilton shop for their little dogs? Do you want to own the same must have dog-carrier, and chat with the same sales team? Then check out Fifi & Romeo. This boutique is located at 7282 Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles (a few blocks from the infamous Robertson Blvd.), and has a whole host of clothing and accessories designed with the priviledged pup in mind.

Having visited their myself, I would describe the setting as fun and fashion forward, but not nearly as posh as what E! might lead you to believe. Their stuff is adorable and amazing, but is very pricey. The staff is mainly disinterested if you are not a celebrity, but it was still fun to look around. Some of the clothing racks are at teacup level so that your dog may browse for whatever may catch their eye while you do the same. If you're looking for a classic piece, consider one of the great cashmere sweaters.

Elle Acknowledges Fashionable Pups

Even the mainstream powerhouse fashion publication Elle is getting involved with the fashion focus towards dogs these days, and I couldn't be happier. Check it out at here.

Pearls? Yes, Please

I just love pearls myself, so you can imagine that it was love at first sight with these big pearls for the pup. I favor pink, but my Starry is white, and if she were perhaps any other color I would probably spring for the silver. These would make such a great Christmas gift. Subtle hint: You could give me pearls, and then give my dog mathcing ones. The are available at Calling All Dogsfor $14.

Aromatherapy and Hormones

I will be honest that I am not completely convinced that the Farnam Comfort-Zone plug-in will really work. How can you ever know for sure, when the illusive element of seeing wat you want to see interjects its ugly little head. But for my princess, nothing but the best will do. So, today I purchased a plug-in for our new home becasue she has been acting in that funny way dogs dow hen they are relocated. Farnam claims that this plug-in released a pheremone that has a calming effect on dogs. It seems an interesting proposition, and one that is undoubtedly useful or those more troubling times in a small dog's life. But is regualarly using these in your home akin to Park Avenue princesses and their Xanax prescriptions?

Doggie Deals

I know I just posted about the Juicy Couture pet carrier, but I just stumbled upon a website that sells Juicy Couture at amazing prices. This is definitly the place to go because you'll save over 50%. Check out TechTraders.

Because $60 Is More Than My Tanks Cost...

If you have ever tried to shop for your small dog, than you already know that an itsy bitsy t-shirt can easily run three times as much as the ones hanging in your own closet. Although occasionally worth the splurge, it is easier said than done to build a petite wardrobe with such high costs. In steps Pure Country Pet Boutique. Not only do they boast downright reasonable prices, which if you've ever played the "How much would I pay for this game", you'll be pleasantly surprised, but they offer sizes that fit my small dog better than any other company I have purchased from. Also, if you'd prefer to try them on in the store, Target offers a great selection of affordable and stylish doggie duds. Isaac Mizrahi even got in on designing a line.

Happy Holidays in Red

I love G.W. Little, and I have looked forward to recieving their catalog ever since my boyfriend bought Starry a cozy cave for Christmas last year that I have caught her in maybe once. Doesn't it always seem to go this way. So, my rationale is if I can't catch her cute little self in her voluntarily used products she has at her disposal, then I have no qualms about dressing her up. Christmas has really snuck up on me this year, and I haven't given much thought to her Christmas wardobe. But, when I saw this red dress, I knew I had to have it for Christmas morning. Now I just have to find something to wear so we can match... maybe a velvet blazer with a red tank on underneath...

Dogphoria: MySpace for Dogs

As an avid Myspace user, I figured I'd give Dogphoria a try as I have often considered creating a MySpace for my dog while at the same time snickering at others who do so. Dogphoria seems to be an agreeable compromise. As a site it allows you to create a simple profile for your dog, and to include a little information about yourself, as well. Pointless, but fun, this site is a great networking tool for those of us who just couldn't live with our special little ones. feature include uploading and sharing stories and photos of your dog, as well as gathering pals, littermates, and comments. You can check out Starry's profile at here

The Times Must Be Joking

And the feud against women with small "arm-dogs" continues... Are they beloved companions, or merely accessories? I know my Starry is my beloved companion. Can she help it that her owner has an insatiable sense of style? Check out the story in the New York Times:

Woman's best Friend, or Accessory, 7 December 2006

It incites me that some people cannot look beyond the fashion to see the love that passes between owner and small dog.

Pampered Puppy: The Source for Haute Dogs

I stumbled upon Pampered Puppy a couple of years ago when Rockstarr was still a tiny puppy. (Oh, let me introduce Rockstarr, my teacup Chihuahua). This is my ultimate source for all things haute dog. It is not just a great place for dogs, but it speaks directly to my fashion consciousness. (Let me introduce myself, I am the fashion addict responsible for Haute Talk).

This site contains a slew of apparel, accessories, blankets, toys, treats, grooming supplies, and so much more for your fashionable friend. It also has great articles and advice for owners of dogs who seem to run on the more high maintenance side. I figured out how to fly with Rockstarr, and was thankful to avoid a fourteen hour car drive thanks to a great article on travelling with a dog. Did you know that for just $10 extra you can stay with your small companion in the Hilton? That's the same as a night in an unfriendly boarding facility. Maybe best of all is the daily photo diary called the Merrylog, that is both stunning and adorable all at once.
